Paul Grohman:.
Paul and his two
Miniature Aircraft MXR Razor 600E's
We first met Paul at the IRCHA SW fun fly in Lehi Utah in the fall of
2006. He was 12 years old then and showed great skill and promise
flying his Trex 450, and Gohbee Stinger 50. I asked Paul to bring us up
to speed with what he's flying now, and what he's been up to.
How old are you now?
And where do you live?
-
We travel full-time in a motorhome so we don't "live" in a
certain city-state.
When did you get started in RC?
- I started at age 11
and have been flying for a little over 3 years.
Who helped you get going?
- My dad was
and is very instrumental in my learning process.
When did you first get interested in RC helicopters?
- I first
started into the hobby when we were over at a friend's house in Pennsylvania,
and he took us to their local club. He let me buddy-box with him on his plane.
Then my dad told me that he used to fly model helicopters back in the
mid-80's. So when we got home he showed me some pictures of his old helis and
some old parts. So then we went to a local hobby shop in Vermont and then
to the flying field in Guildhall, Vermont near our home in Dalton, New
Hampshire. We met the "heli guy" out at that field. We ended up
buying his Hirobo Shuttle ZXX which I flew very little. This was in June 2005. We then bought a Hirobo
Shuttle Plus, this was my trainer. Later on we bought a Gohbee Stinger 50,
this was my trainer for 3D. After Clintstone's Birthday Bash fun-fly in
January of 2007 we finally bought a MA MXR Razor 600E, and I have been flying
them ever since!
What was your first RC helicopter?

620mm.
And how about the nitro fleet?
- I do not fly any
nitro helis.
What is you radio of choice?
And fuel preference?
- I do not fly any
nitro helis, but when I did my fuel of choice is Coolpower 30%.
What gyro do you use?
- I like
the Futaba GY611 because of its holding power in hard, fast bacwards
maneuvers.
Which servos are you using ?
- I love to fly the JR
8717's on a 2cell LiPo--8 volts!
Do you use a regulator?
- My servos are on a striaght
2cell Lipo--8 volts...so I don't use a regulator.
What is youur favorite maneuver ?
- Anything that is
low and aggressive...I don't really have a "Favorite
Maneuver"
What do you consider to be the hardest maneuver for you ?
What was your worst crash?
- My worst crash was at Port
Charlotte... It was a cracking-tailslide with too low of pull out!
Heres a picture of Paul's damage to the Razor because of a "too low" pull out!
And the tail boom from the same crash
I asked Paul to give us a couple of his favorite flying pictures. Here are the ones he liked
