| Pilot Profile: Jason Bell |
After meeting Jason Bell at the 2008 LasVegas competition & funfly:.and seeing his stellar demo flight on Saturday, I decided we needed to give some recognition to some of the upcoming pilots in the RC Helicopter sport. ![]() Heres Jason (AKA Torkboy) just following his amazing flight with the Aurora, He's Still shaking I bet Jason is 17 years old, and began flying planes when he was 9 year old. Around 15yrs old he got interested in flying helicopters after seeing some online videos of Alan Szabo jr.'s amazing 3D flying. I think Alan has sparked more interest for young pilots than any other person in history. Virtually everybody that has come to the sport recently mentions Alan's videos or seeing him fly in person as one of the reasons that they got into the sport. Jason lives in El Cajon, California, which is just a few miles east of San Diego. He credits Keith Bently (a Minature Aircraft Rep. at the time) with helping him get started with helicopters. His first helicopter was a Raptor 50. Jason's current fleet consists of an Align Trex 500 and 600N along with a Avant Aurora to fill the top slot. For Radio duties he uses a Spektrum DX7, and JR's new 8717 servos, along with Spartan DS760's for tail control. He prefers V Blades, and Coolpower 30% fuel. For RX power, he is running 2S Lipo's directly to the RX with a stepdown for the tail rotor servo. He also mentioned that he uses Aerospire Multigov governers on the nitro powered helis for throttle control. His Favorite manouver is the London Eye (a piroetteing tic-tocing loop) . The move he says is hardest for him is a Reversing Chaos. The worst crash he remembers, (I think we all try to put those out of our minds) was a "Dumb Thumb" incident with the 600N which tallied up more than $900 in damages. Jason future goals for RC Helis are to be consistantly ranked in the XFC and 3D Masters competitions. If the ability and skill he showed at LasVegas are any indication, he is well on his way to reaching those goals.
Jasons saturday flight was AWESOME
More from the the LasVegas Competion / Funfly
Here's Jason's Saturday flight video on RunRyder. This is the SD version and here is the HD version. Mark has done some amazing HD video work, so if your PC can play the HD version, I would recommend that you download that and watch the flight. The Bladestop auto is worth the download time by itself.
