Looking for my first RC heli.... 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I'm new to rc helicopters but it looks like a lot of fun and I want to learn. I don't want to jump into a 6 channel that I'm going to crash and rebuild, crash and rebuild, crash and rebuild, etc...(although, I'll probably end up doing that with WHATEVER I get). I thought it would be good to start out with a 4 ch coaxial and learn to fly that before moving on? I've got a LOT of questions but thought this might be a good place to find some answers since you guys OBVIOUSLY (from the videos I've watched) know what you're doing. Anyway, I'm tossing around the idea of the Walkera 5#10 or the Blazing Star by Exceed-RC as my first heli. What are your thoughts on this? Where are your favorite places online to shop for stuff like this? (I really like xheli.com so far) Who has the best deals and support? If I go from learning to fly on a coax to a 4 ch single blade, will it be like starting all over? I've looked at the Falcon 40 as my second after learning on the coax... I need opinions on what my upgrade path should be as I progress on the controls. Thanks everyone!

Hey there, thanks for posting! With the stability of the coax helis, and the parts price, you cant go wrong! However, if i were you, i would go with something a little more name brand, such as the blade CX, or Blade CX 2. The falcon 40 is a great second heli, and will take you through up to FFF, and have be modded endlessly. The reason i suggest getting a blade CX, is that about EVERY hobby store in the world that carries anything flying RX, will have Blade Cx's, and parts. I have tought quite a few people to fly with Blades, and am very familiar with them. You honestly couldnt do much better than a Blade CX for a first heli, it costs a little bit more, but is well worth the extra dollars, as you get what you pay for!

Hope i helped!

Aeryk

P.S. if you have any more questions, please done hesitate to ask.

Thanks for your reply Aeryk. Yes, that did help. Is there anywhere that you know of that would have the Blade CX2 a little cheaper, or is $189 pretty much a standard price on that? (seems that's all I've seen). I'm happy to see that you guys are from Roosevelt and somewhat close. My dad grew up in Roosevelt and we used to go out there almost every year, lots of room to fly!!! I'm hoping to be able to pick one of these Blades up soon and get flying. By the way, I'm amazed at how good you are on the stick at 15 (just from watching the videos on the site), that is some INCREDIBLE flying! Thanks for sharing. Hopefully I can do for my kids what your dad has done for you in the RC world, I think that's great! Anyway, thanks for your input and I hope you don't mind if I ping you guys once in a while with questions.... Love the site!

I finally went out and got the Blade CX2, now I just need to learn about it, how everything works, etc.... I think I've got the blade changes down to a science now though... What would be the best way for me to learn to fly? Kinda getting tired of swapping blades out and need to learn to fly it the right way. I've also got to figure out how to get this thing trimmed right, it's all over the place right now. How do you teach people to fly? What are some of the 'basics' I need to practice? Just looking for what I should be doing now that I have something to fly and the best ways to learn.
