Getting into the Hobby.. 2 Years ago Karma: 2
Gary,

I just want to say thanks for a job well done on a Hawk Pro review I feel like I know this Heli long before I get the kit. I order the Real Flight Simulator a couple of days ago and hopefully I get it before the Holiday comes around. As I read on the Run-Ryder website most Heli pilot strongly recommend of owning a flight sims if your seriously thinking of learning to fly R/C Heli. I joined a local club on our area beginning of this year and got my solo wing this season. Now I'm seriously thinking of stepping it up by owning and learning to fly a Heli and the Century Hawk Pro is in the top of my list as my first Heli and I'm just glad that you have the on going review about it and it really gives me the first hand information about this model. Anyway thanks again for your great effort on helping fellow hobbyist like me to get a great deal of information before purchasing their first Heli.

Thanks Robert,
Just FYI I'd be glad to help you get your setup working, If you don't have a local "expert". I can get you very close on the initial mechanical and radio setup. Sometimes that the hardest. If you have some experience with 2-Cycle engines in planes or something that is helpful as well, but certainly not required.

I think a SIM is the best way to go if you don't have a friend who can buddy-box you until you can take over. We have both Realflight G3.5 and Aerofly Pro Deluxe. I prefer Aerofly even though Aeryk maintains that Realflight is more like the real thing for his 3D. Aerofly just seems easier to maintain orientation for me. Its brighter and crisper. Realflight sometimes looks murky and fuzzy, I guess they are doing a lot of anti-aliasing to make the images look photo realistic. Oh and on the 3 PCs we've tried Realflight on, the shadows do not work. With Aerofly, the shadows have worked from day one.

Just my 2-cents worth

Thanks for the reply. One thing about our club we have just about any fix aircraft out there. The last Fly-In our club held was back in September and one of our member brought an Airplane that cost almost 20 grand I was so in dis-belief that I have to check it out for my self on the internet that the bird really cost that much and it sure was. But when in comes to Heli I think there is only one member that does have one and he is still on the learning stage he has not pass the Hovering part but he can certainly flies his airplane really well, I'm sure I can use all the help I can get and thanks for your offer about helping me out on setting up my Heli. My plan is to get the flight sim while I'm learning to fly on the sim I will get the Heli kit which is the Century Hawk Pro and get the rest of the stuff to go with it a little bit at a time. By the way my transmitter is a Futaba 9CAP I know this is configured for a fix wing aircraft but I think it has all the feature also for a Heli which I'm probably going to be asking for help also. As far as the servo and receiver and Gyro I will try to get what you have on your Hawk Pro, This time I need to concentrate on learning to fly and what you have yours configured seems very reasonable. Please keep us updated on your setting on your Gyro. I'm a big fan of your site I check this site on the daily basis, well actually at least twice a day and I watch all the videos you have and just waiting for more new ones to come. Thanks again!

Your Fellow Hobbyist,

Robert C.

BTW: Here is my personal R/C site if you would like to see some pictures of our club events.

P.S. The Airplane I was talking about above is the The "TamJet FA/18 Super Hornet 50th Aniversary Diamond Backs" which is owned by our club member: Patrick Frost. You'll see the picture of it from my site it is really an awsome airplane except for the price of it!

FWIW, the 9CAP (airplane version) is the same as the 9CHP (Helicopter version) except for the location of some of the switch functions like idle-up and throttle hold, and the 9CAP has the ratcheted throttle, while the heli version has no notches on the throttle at all.

My switches on my 9CHPS are as follows.
Top left from the rear

  • Idle up 3, Switch F, 2 position

  • Idle up 1 and 2, Switch E, 3 position

  • Elevator DR, Switch A, 2 position

  • Rudder DR, Switch B, 2 position

Top right from the rear

  • Throttle cut, Switch H, (Spring loaded) 2 position

  • Throttle hold, Switch G, 2 position

  • Aileron DR, Switch D, 2 position

  • Gyro gain, Switch C, 3 position

Hope this helps
