Gary,

I found this standoffs from Tower Hobbies it might work.. Maybe you can measure the distance between the side of the frame to the end side of the tank then we can determine which length of standoff we can use..

Tower Hobbies Stock Number: LXKYW0 Price: $3.79

Tower Hobbies Stock Number: LXSG56 Price: $5.29

to mount this header tank from Century:

Century Stock Number: CN2213
2OZ HEADER TANK with MACHINED MOUNT
$24.95

Let me know what you think!

Definitely you would need the longer one (the LXKYW0), The main tank extends 35mm beyond the frame side. The "LXKYW0" standoff Is 31.23 mm long. The tank bracket (on my Raptor Version, and it looks like the Century one is the same) steps back a couple of mm behind the tank, so it may take a small flatwasher on each end to allow a small clearance between the two tanks. Hopefully it is threaded for 3mm bolts.

This looks like a great way to solve the problem of where to mount the tank, I May have to use your idea !

Gary,

Guess what I got my Hawk Pro today, but first I need to keep my self from jumping into putting it together without remembering your advices on your review, I just now realized that I would have to take the upper frame assembly apart in order to replace the spacer with the 5x13 bearing in the counter shaft.. I guess I better take my time and not rush my self.. I will be using your review as an important reference on every step of the way on putting the Heli together.. and if you don't mind I will be posting some pictures as I progress on assembling this Heli..

Robert, That sounds Great !! I'm sure you will like it. Go ahead and post pictures and descriptions.. Either here, or start a new thread under helicopters / Nitro and Gas. Let me know how the Toki works out.

Oh... One thing to think about with mounting the header tank where you are thinking is the balance. Quite a few people with Ravens / Falcons say that they are tail heavy to begin with. My hawk is just about perfect with a single battery, but I have modified it and added a second redundant pack, and eliminated the switches. With the extra 5oz or so up front I think I will need the header tank to be behind the main shaft, so I will more than likely mount it as you suggested. I guess it depends on servo weight etc.

Hey Robert, Hows the Hawk coming?

I just wanted to let you know we posted a new video today, a little more flying with the Hawk. It was too cold to do too much, but we got a couple of tanks in.

Heres the Video http://videos.myrctoys.com/nitro/hawk-12-30-2006.wmv

And I also added a little commentary over in the "Flying Impressions" section of the review.

Great review with lots of content, thanks for going through all the effort. Just finished watching the video with the autos, loops, rolls, etc. Again thanks.

My build is progressing on my Trex 450, taking it slow and thinking a lot as I move forward. Looking forward to firing it up and moving forward with my skills. At the same time, like everyone else in this hobby, I'm thinking about the next Heli. I think the next one will be a little messier, smoke, drink, get loud and smell!
Happy New Year to all,
Randy
